For its Loch View development in Glasgow, Nicolson Homes needed a high-quality paint that delivered on coverage, durability and finish. In Valspar Trade, the team found a reliable solution that cut down on touch-ups and delivered a standout white in fewer coats.
Loch View Hogganfield in Glasgow is the latest development for housebuilder, Nicolson Homes. Typically working on projects around 15-30 units in size, Nicolson Homes distinguishes itself from the competition by delivering premium homes ready to move in, including everything from interior finishes, such as carpets and bathroom tiles, to EV chargers.
Loch View is a small development of six pristine, three-bed semi-detached homes, within close commuting distance of Glasgow.
When it came to the interior wall finishes, the paint price, quality and coverage were three non-negotiables, as William Caldwell, Managing Director at Nicolson Homes explained: “Our focus is on providing pristine homes that offer flexible family living. As such, quality is everything – including when it comes to the interior paint. More specifically, we’re looking for excellent opacity and coverage. If it takes more coats and touch-ups to achieve the perfect finish, then that costs us both time and money.”
As part of a product trial, Nicolson Homes chose to use a range of Valspar Trade’s emulsions throughout the new development, including Valspar Trade Tough Matt in Pure Brilliant White, Contract Matt and Acrylic Wood & Metal Satin.
William continued: “We were strongly recommended Valspar Trade by our local Tradepoint store and encouraged to trial it. While Tradepoint isn’t our usual supplier, we were attracted by its site delivery offering and competitive pricing, and have since built a really positive relationship with the team. As a housebuilder, trialling any new product on a live site is always big risk, but in this case it really paid off.
“The whole team was really impressed with the paint finish and the coverage. The white is clearly of a high quality and delivers a strong, bright colour – which can be harder to achieve than you’d think.
“The Valspar Trade Tough Matt in particular offers us the durability that is needed. As with all live housebuilding sites, once the paint has dried you may have other trades coming in to do final fixes and finishes, which can potentially lead to scuffs or marks. While this previously would have meant paint touch ups before final hand over, we can now easily clean and wipe the walls without issue.”
Valspar Trade Tough Matt is specially formulated for walls and ceilings in high traffic areas, being stain resistant and scrubbable, helping to prevent stains from setting into the surface. Its high opacity and superior covering power ensures excellent application and the perfect finish, while its advanced water-based technology is also quick drying and low spatter.
